The minutes were read in full by the investigating secretary of the file, José Luis González.

His speech was an apology to Jumillanism with its characteristic humor.

He began by confessing that: "I am a 'miaja acojonao', something that I have never gone through, even if they gave me the Pulitzer would happen".

He thanked the appointment of all those who made the proposal: "I send my mayor my affection and gratitude and I regret not having met her before," he said.

He had a special memory for his parents, siblings and "for people who are no longer there and would have liked it".

"My childhood is my homeland and it took place in a town in La Mancha-Murcia called Jumilla and those memories are still in me, everything that smells like Jumilla excites me," he said.

Reviewing his life, he recalled that: "Murcia disappointed me at the beginning, but later I had to love her." At first, I approached the El Marqués agency to see people from the town.

From his period of journalism studies in Madrid, he pointed out that there were people who said that "with this job so long this boy will never be a man of profit".

He also remembered when he shouted on the station platforms: "Long live the Christ Moored to the Column".

About Jumilla he stressed that: "Everyone born in this town is marked for life, we are like old vines of Monastrell," he said, "I spent the best days of my life on Radio Jumilla Parochial Broadcaster." words for his first wife, who "never put a bad gesture on my jumillage and it seemed funny to see me so provincial.

The current one knows all of Jumilla, so much that even wanted to make a 'gachamiga' in Florence because it was cloudy. "

The director of the newspaper La Verdad de Murcia, Alberto Aguirre, was commissioned to present the honoree.

"He is one of the greatest journalists of the last 50 years, La Verdad sin La Zarabanda would not be the same after 47 years of publication," he said.

He made a reminder of his career, his beginnings in Jumilla and studies in Madrid: "García Martínez has given moments of great brilliance to the pages of La Verdad, innovation and citizen journalism before those terms were coined, a unique sense of humor, which is the most powerful weapon of the intelligent ".

Journalism 2.0

He also pointed out that García was already doing journalism 2.0 before the internet was invented and he did not hesitate to say that: "Having him is a real privilege, he was born to write and write while he lives".

Aguirre concluded, pointing out that: "Jumilla is his first passion, this land not only gives good wine, but also talented people".

Finally, the mayor, Juana Guardiola, thanked "all the people who have been involved in this appointment."

He also indicated that: "It has been an honor to have presided over this moment." Congratulations on behalf of the entire corporation I feel a great pride for Jumilla, since it is her people who honor her with her daily work and her way of being; They make open and generous. "

In the second part of the event it was possible to enjoy a performance by musicians from the UCAM Symphony Orchestra accompanied by the pianist Pedro Valero and the voices of Mamen Cano, Tonny Beteta and Oché Cortés.
