The Governing Board held today has awarded the works of adaptation and functional improvement of the Plaza del Camionero Juan Soriano to the commercial Construcciones Ruiz Alemán for an amount of 298,900 euros after a bidding process in which 12 companies were presented.
The mayor of Jumilla, Juana Guardiola, and the Councilor for Works and Urban Planning, Francisco González, have reported on the details of the work.
The Plaza del Camionero Juan Soriano will become a roundabout without traffic lights "with the aim of relieving traffic in this area and gaining security," said Juana Guardiola, when four avenues and a street converge on the same street.
To solve possible floods, several mailbox-type scuppers will be installed at different points that will guarantee the entry of the runoff, being camouflaged under the sidewalk.
The rainwater collection system will also be renewed.
The roundabout will have two two-lane roads of 4 meters each, their corresponding sidewalks and a red micro-lane bike lane that will connect with Avenida de la Libertad.
New signage will also be installed, as well as new led lamps and relocation of both existing and urban furniture.
The project includes the construction inside the central roundabout of a circular ornamental fountain of 13 meters in diameter, five water effects and submersible led lights of 10 colors.
In addition, a concrete base will be installed to relocate the Monument to the Trucker.
The duration of the works will be about three months and the beginning of them will be in September, with the aim of avoiding that during the holidays a zone of so much traffic is in the process of renewal.
It will be carried out in five phases so that traffic can continue to circulate.
