Ecovidrio participates for the fourth consecutive year in the Fiestas de Jumilla (01/08/2018)

Ecovidrio, the non-profit organization responsible for the recycling of glass containers in Spain, will participate for the fourth consecutive year in Feria and Fiestas de Jumilla.

Specifically, it will do so at the Exaltación del Vino, on August 9, and at the Wine Fair on the 11th, events in which the participation of more than 20 wineries and the attendance of thousands of people is scheduled.

In both events, Ecovidrio staff will raise awareness of the benefits of recycling glass packaging waste correctly.

In addition, an ecopatrulla will perform a "door to door" service for the wineries that expose in these acts proceeding to the removal of generated glass containers, while carrying out an awareness campaign on the importance of recycling this waste.

Questions are answered to all the agents participating in both events about the correct recycling of glass containers, as well as what type of waste they should deposit in the green igloo, thus achieving a high level of awareness among the participants.

The glass that is deposited in the containers is 100% recycled and used for the manufacture of new containers, indefinitely and without losing the original properties.

According to the latest data available, corresponding to 2017, the citizens of Jumilla recycled a total of 445,420 kilograms of glass containers.

This assumes that each jumillanoreciclo an average of 17.4 kilograms of glass.

Regarding the rate of containerization, Jumilla is located with an average of 170 inhabitants per container, currently having a total of 151 igloos for glass packaging waste installed in the municipality.

20 years recycling glass containers

After the approval of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Law in 1997 and the start of operations in 1998, Ecovidrio became the managing entity of a recycling model that guarantees a public, universal and complete service.

The recycling of glass containers is a fundamental element to contribute to sustainable development according to the principles of circular economy.

During the last two decades, the recycling rate of glass containers has experienced an exponential growth going from 31.3% in 2000 to 72% in 2016, a rate estimated by Ecovidrio according to the current calculation method.

The work of Ecovidrio stands out for guaranteeing high-quality recycling through the container, enhancing containerization and collection infrastructures, investing in plans and resources aimed at increasing the recycling of glass containers in the hotel trade, mobilizing citizens through awareness campaigns and promote the prevention and eco-design of packaging.

Ecovidrio is the non-profit organization in charge of the management of the recycling of glass packaging waste in Spain.
