Fomento will finance part of the restoration of the Casa Pérez de los Cobos through 1.5% Cultural aids (14/03/2019)

The 1.5% Cultural Mixed Commission, chaired by the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Transport and Housing, Pedro Saura, and composed of representatives of the Ministry of Development and the Ministry of Culture and Sport, has approved the financing of six new actions in the Region of Murcia among which is the restoration of the Pérez de los Cobos manor house in Jumilla for Sociocultural Center and Musical Legacy of Jumilla.

The Ministry of Development will provide 69% of the total budget of the action amounting to 1,325,736.50 euros.

The mayor of Jumilla, Juana Guardiola, said that "it is an excellent and great news for the municipality and its cultural heritage, as the Ministry of Development will provide 914,000 euros charged to the funds generated for 1'5 % Cultural as a result of the contracting of public works, while the remaining 400,000 euros will be assumed by the City Council ".

Similarly, the mayor mentioned "the support received to our project by the Government of Spain through the government delegate, Diego Conesa, and the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Pedro Saura."

It was the second occasion in which this project was presented to this call for aid to 1.5% Cultural in search of funding.

The first time was in the call of August of 2017, being denied and, again, it was tried in the one of June of 2018, that has been solved now.

The proposal was to turn the Casa Pérez de los Cobos into a space dedicated to the history of music, taking advantage of the different rooms such as exhibition and didactic rooms, cafeteria and shop.

The purpose is to give tourist use and revitalize the historical set of Jumilla, even serving to explain the urban development of the city.

The City of Jumilla already undertook in 2017 an emergency action given its unfortunate state, which consisted of cleaning, shoring and debris the house, as well as timely replacement of the roof in order to achieve minimum conditions of safety and stability avoiding, until the definitive restoration was made, the action of the rain that entered through the cracks and landslides.

The works had a cost of 102,800 euros.
