The Jumilla PDO once again offers a scholarship for the master's degree in sommelier and enomarketing at the Basque culinary center (05/11/2020)

This week has started for the fourth time in a row, the process of searching for candidates to access the scholarship offered by the DOP Jumilla to study at the Basque Culinary Center in Donostia - San Sebastián.

A training action within the promotional actions of the Jumilla PDO, and its commitment to the training of young generations, in addition to positioning itself in this Master as a PDO of high influence and interest in Spain. This year the entities that have confirmed their involvement in this process of candidatures, both educational, sectorial and institutional, are expanded; Among its collaborators, it is counted as a novelty, with the Degree in Oenology from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Ciudad Real) and the University Master's Degree in Viticulture and Oenology, from the Miguel Hernández University (Orihuela / Eche).

In addition to the Sommeliers Associations of Albacete and Murcia, the Murcia Academy of Gastronomy lends itself to this preselection, through its association of Murcia hospitality businessmen, JECOMUR, the Albacete Hospitality Association, and its namesake in Murcia , HOSTEMUR, the Integrated Center for Training and Agrarian Experiences of Jumilla, CIFEA, the Center for Tourist Qualification of Murcia (CCT),in addition to schools and degrees of Professional Training in hospitality and tourism, such as the Integrated Public Center for Hospitality Professional Training in Cartagena, the Universidad Laboral de Albacete, or the IES La Flota de Murcia. The Jumilla PDO proposes the establishment of agreements with these institutions that can provide this scholarship as an extra motivation to their students, being the ones that decide their selection proposals based on the real candidates that they may have.

In addition, this year the DOP Jumilla website enables the possibility of spontaneously applying for this selection process. With this action of commitment to training, and to the young public, the Regulatory Council intends to participate in a dialogue with the new generations and to value the figure of the sommelier and his activity.

The Jumilla PDO facilitates, not only the scholarship recipient but also his colleagues, the possibility of tasting Jumilla PDO wines and broadening their knowledge about this PDO and its native grape, Monastrell, thanks to the tastings inside and outside the classroom. The final process for the selection of candidates will remain active until November 24, after which the selection of finalists will open.

This final selection will take place via online interviews on December 2 at a work table made up of representatives of the sommelier associations, the Regulatory Council and the teaching center itself, and may be left deserted if a suitable candidate is not found. About the Master of Sommelier and Enomárketing of the Basque Culinary Center This Master offers Master Class and guests, tasting workshops, networking with active professionals in the market, learning trips and a highly personalized learning process.

A demanding master's degree that will allow you to obtain a 360 ° vision in the world of wine and a broad base of knowledge about the product and about the wine business, without forgetting the connection with gastronomy. This Master, which begins on January 11, 2021 and lasts 6 months, is taught at the Basque Culinary Center facilities in Donostia - San Sebastián.

Students must carry out curricular internships lasting 3 months.

These internships will be offered by the Jumilla PDO so that the candidate can continue to expand his / her experience and knowledge of the value of a Denomination of Origin, while contributing to the PDO itself and its wineries.

Candidates who receive their diploma successfully, expect a great future and high specialization in the sommelier sector at an international level.
