The Four Paws Jumilla Animal Protection Association and the German organization PfotenNot eV, based in Göttingen, have launched a campaign and a project to promote the castration of dogs and cats in Jumila.

For one month, from today until August 8, they will pay 50% of the cost of the surgical interventions performed in the two collaborating clinics (Veterinary Clinic Urban and Mascots).

The objective is to reduce the birth rates of dogs and cats in Jumilla, a population of 25,000 inhabitants in which, according to the latest report of the local association, in 2016 took care of 287 abandoned animals.

Of the total, say that 60% were puppies small or less than a year.

Based on these data, they believe that the only solution to curb the number of dropouts is to educate and raise awareness about the importance of birth control through castration.

The campaign is accompanied by graphic material that wants to banish great myths about castration that promote the birth of puppies that will never find a home or will be abandoned on roads, containers or, as usual, at the gates of the Municipal Hostel.

For example, that "it is good that the bitch for once" or that "will negatively change the behavior of the animal."

Cuatro Patas Jumilla managed the Municipal Shelter of Abandoned Animals since its opening in 2009, although they began to rescue abandoned animals in 2007. Since then they have taken care of more than 2500 animals and now their efforts are directed not only to stop the abandonment , But to show that castration is the only effective measure to achieve it.

Today they begin a statistical study in which will analyze the incidence of the campaigns in the population of dogs and cats and will measure their effects in the coming years.
