Double conference this week to honor the jumillano Pedro Cobos (19/02/2018)

This week there will be two conferences to honor the writer Jumillano Pedro Cobos.

The first one will be in charge of the journalist and member of the Royal Academy Alfonso X El Sabio, Santiago Delgado, to carry out on Tuesday at 20.00 at the Roque Baños Center on the literature of the honoree.

On the same stage and time, on Wednesday, the doctor in Archeology, Estefanía Gandía, will hold a second talk, in this case on the facet of historian Pedro Cobos.

Pedro Luis Pérez de los Cobos García, better known by his literary nickname Pedro Cobos, was an illustrious Jumillano writer.

However, the fact that he worked away from Jumilla and only published books in the last years of his life makes him not well known in his hometown.

Before dedicating himself to literature he had already made some publications related to the History of Law, a subject he taught at the University of Murcia for ten years.

But at the end of the decade of 1970 an injury made him leave the teaching tasks.

Since then he turned to his two great passions: traveling and writing.

As a writer he cultivated various literary genres, among which poetry, theater, story and novel stand out.

His masterpiece was 'La Vida Perdularia' (1989), where he reviews, in the form of a travel book, the identity of the Region of Murcia and each of its towns.

Thursday and Friday will be the protagonists of the Conference 'An Education for the 21st century'.

On Thursday at 8:00 pm at the Roque Baños Center, Pedro Jiménez will offer the conference: 'Climate change, uncertainties' by Pedro Jiménez Guerrero.

For Friday, also in the Roque Baños Center and at the same time the gathering 'Education for sustainable development', by professors Domingo Fernández Beltrán and Emilio Ballester is scheduled.

On the other hand, Friday is the opening and awards ceremony of the XXXVI Photography Exhibition of Easter Week Luis Canicio.

It will be at 20:30 in the culture classroom of Caja Murcia.

On Saturday, one of the most important events prior to Holy Week is celebrated.

This is the appointment of Nazareno de Honor, which this year falls to Cayetano Herrero.

The event will be held at the Vico Theater from 19.30.

The cultural week will close on Sunday with Eccomi, a walk through the opera and Requiem by Karl Jenkins, In the first part, the soprano Cristina Toledo, will perform the best arias in the lyrical world, with works by Mozart, Gounod, Puccini, Verdi, Bizet and Massenet, accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the UCAM.

In the second part, the interpretation of the Welsh Requiem Karl Jenkins, performed by the UCAM Symphony Orchestra and the Discantus Choir, which will feature soloists with Paloma Friedhoff (soprano), Anna Goma (mezzo-soprano) and Inés Olabarría (contralto).

It will be at the Teatro Vico at 8:00 pm with tickets at 15, 12 and 8 euros.
