The General Directorate of the Environment has confirmed that Jumilla will be one of the municipalities of the Region of Murcia where a pre-pilot project will be carried out to study alternatives for separate collection and subsequent bio-waste management operations.
Jumilla City Council had shown its interest in Jumilla hosting this project through the Councilor for the Environment, Juan Gil, and the head of the area, Victoria Martinez, in order to start raising the population of Jumillana something that will be mandatory from 2023. The project would be launched between this year and 2019 in a specific area of ​​Jumilla, chosen for its characteristics and the tests that have been done with characterizations and studies.
"We have worked so that the study is done in Jumilla, because there are European funds, the needs for awareness exist and we are sure that it will help us in the future to meet those objectives set by Europe, which entails obtaining economic resources for other projects. , if we do the job well, "said Councilor for the Environment, Juan Gil.
Benefits of the differentiated management of bio-waste
Bio-waste is vegetable waste from green areas and gardens, food and kitchen waste from households, restaurants, collective catering services and retail establishments, as well as comparable waste from food processing.
The prevention and proper management of bio-waste not only positively affects waste management in general, but also contributes to the sustainable management of resources, the protection of soil and helps to combat climate change.
