Students of the Asunción School, awarded in the 'We are scientists' contest of Ciudad Ciencia (18/04/2018)

They will receive the visit this Friday from the researcher of the Center for Edaphology and Applied Biology of Segura (CEBAS), Silvia Simón.

At the same time, the researcher José Manuel Marín will move to IES Infanta Elena to work on sustainable agriculture in the classroom

The students of the CEIP Our Lady of the Assumption of Jumilla have been awarded for being the most active and those who raised the most interesting questions to the participants of 'We are scientists, get us out of here!', A contest held last November.

Among all the students, Jumillano students stood out for their questions, according to the organization of the event.

The prize for your interest and participation will be the visit, this Friday, at 12:00 hours of the researcher of the Center for Edaphology and Applied Biology of Segura (CEBAS), Silvia Simón Grao, who will give a talk entitled 'Impact of scarcity of rainfall in agriculture and use of mushrooms to alleviate their effects'.

This research center belonging to the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) is located in Murcia.

With this activity, students are expected to know the research that is taking place near their municipality.

Silvia Simón will talk about the problems that the incorporation of desalinated seawater can cause in irrigated crops such as citrus, fruit or vine and their possible solutions.

According to the researcher, "the inconvenience posed by the new water sources is that, without additional treatment, they can reach quite high concentrations of boron.This type of fruit trees can begin to show symptoms of phytotoxicity and, if the problem persists, serious agronomic problems could appear ".

Science City also visits IES Infanta Elena

On the other hand, the same Friday at 12:35 hours, the IES Infanta Elena will receive the visit of the researcher José Manuel Martín as part of the workshop 'Sustainable Agriculture in the classroom', an activity promoted by Science City in which educational centers they become a space for agricultural experimentation through the practices proposed throughout the academic year by the team of the Institute of Agrarian Sciences of the CSIC.

Plants and flowers of the agricultural ecosystem 'and will visit the school garden where the students have carried out the experiments.

These activities are incorporated into the programming of Ciudad Ciencia, a scientific dissemination project that the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the Obra Social La Caixa launched, among other municipalities in Jumilla in collaboration with the Youth Council, with so that the Jumillano know firsthand the scientific and technological news.
