El Charco del Zorro has been included in the National Inventory of Wet Areas (18/06/2019)

The Ministry of the Environment has included the Charco del Zorro de Jumilla in the National Inventory of Wetlands, which is why it is protected from urban projects, renovations or other actions that threaten its conservation.

All wetlands have the highest conservation priority and the Ministry of Environment established the need to make a national inventory of these ecosystems to know their status, evaluate their threats and follow them up.

In the Murcia Region, the 53 currently existing have been included.

The total area of wetlands in the Region of Murcia covers some 18,856 hectares, with the Mar Menor having the largest area (13,600 hectares).

From Jumilla, in addition to Charco del Zorro, Salinas de la Rosa and Salinas del Principal have also been included.

Recently, the City of Jumilla has carried out works for the preparation of the Charco del Zorro wetland with an investment of close to 50,000 euros.

The wooden posts that made the boundary between the land and the water channel area have been replaced by their poor condition and lack of security by a masonry wall that will prevent possible falls into the pond.

Likewise, an informative poster has been installed with the particularities of an area of great biological richness, an oasis in semi-arid land, historic for the municipality.
