Ecovidrio, the non-profit organization responsible for recycling glass containers in Spain, participates for the fifth consecutive year at the Jumilla Fair and Festivities, which will take place from Friday 9 to August 18.
The participation of Ecovidrio takes place in two of the main events, the Exaltation of Wine, held yesterday, and the Miniferia tomorrow, Saturday 10, events in which more than 20 wineries and thousands of people participate.
In both acts, Ecovidrio staff conscience the attendees about the benefits of recycling glass container waste correctly.
In addition, an eco-patrol performs a "door-to-door" service for the wineries that exhibit in these acts.
They remove the generated glass containers and, at the same time, carry out an awareness campaign on the importance of recycling this waste.
From Ecovidrio they assure that, due to the experience of previous years, this action has a great acceptance, since it is already known by the winemakers and the inhabitants of Jumilla and is the fifth year that it is carried out.
The glass that is deposited in the containers is 100% recycled and is used for the manufacture of new containers, indefinitely and without losing the original properties.
Recycling glass prevents the growth of landfills.
According to the latest available data for 2018, Jumilla citizens recycled a total of 489,320 kilograms of glass containers.
This means that each citizen recycled an average of 19.2 kilograms of glass.
Regarding the rate of containerization, Jumilla stands with an average of 166 inhabitants per container.
It currently has a total of 154 igloos for glass packaging waste.
