This Saturday (September 7) marks the World Awareness Day of Duchenne and Jumilla will take part in it by illuminating the facade of the City Hall from midnight on Friday and performing a balloon launching act on Saturday at 7 pm from Paseo Lorenzo Guardiola.
The objective of this initiative is to make people affected by this rare disease visible.
It is a progressive disorder of the muscle that causes the loss of its function and therefore those affected end up completely losing their independence.
A variant is Becker muscular dystrophy, which is less severe because its progression is slower.
It affects one of every 5,000 children in the world and in Jumilla it is known that it is suffered by at least three people.
Their families will be in charge of releasing the balloons on Saturday, representing the Duchenne Parent Project Spain Association, which fights the disease.
They will also install an information table where they will report on it.
