The so-called effect of the Jumilla PDO in Madrid increases (03/12/2019)

The landing of the Jumilla PDO in Madrid has left a good taste in the mouth of the multitude of people from Madrid who went through the Granados Hall of the InterContinental Hotel, yesterday, the day they came to taste the wines of this historic PDO.

In the lounge there were numerous professionals in the sector;

restaurateurs, sommeliers, tasters, distributors, shopkeepers and media, who took the opportunity to meet new wines and wineries, as well as meet the already established wineries, which always have some novelty.

Around 650 people gathered, which also did not lack the tasting groups and sommelier schools, common in each edition.

During the development of the show, the sommelier María Quílez, formed with a grant from the Jumilla PDO at the Basque Culinay Center, toured with the guests the wineries present, highlighting the main qualities and differences of each of the wines presented.

Participating wineries: Bodegas Bleda, Bodegas Olivares, Bodegas Hijos de Juan Gil, Bodegas Luzón, BSI Wineries, Esencia Wines Cellars, Bodegas Ontalba, Bodegas Carcelén, Bodegas Sierra Norte, Bodega Carchelo, Bodegas San Dionisio, Bodegas Alceño, Bodegas Madrid Romero, Bodegas Fernández, Bodegas 1890, Bodegas Viña Elena, Parajes del Valle Bodegas y Viñedos, Bodegas Delampa and Bodegas Silvano García, have been able to confirm the large influx of interested people;

and an audience with curiosity and eagerness to meet and get excited about the most illustrious grape of this PDO: the Monastrell.

The 19 wineries participating in the presentation showed their satisfaction with the impact, the presence of people and the good development of the event that usually takes place every year in the city of Madrid at this time.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its Wine Quality Contest, other activities have been added to the Jumilla PDO Week in Madrid, already consolidated after years of launching this hall.

The promotional week of the Jumilla PDO in Madrid ends tonight with the flamenco party at Casa Patas.

A novel action that will combine wine tasting, cocktail and dance, for exclusive guests, and which aims to consolidate the presence of the Jumilla PDO in Madrid.

About the Jumilla Protected Designation of Origin

In the Jumilla PDO five kinds of wine are made: red, pink, white, sweet and liquor wines, and premium production of native varieties.

The Monastrell grape is the base of 70% of the wines produced in this Protected Designation of Origin.

The production area is defined on the one hand by the southeast end of the province of Albacete, which includes the municipalities of Montealegre del Castillo, Fuente Álamo, Ontur, Hellín, Albatana and Tobarra;

on the other, the north of the province of Murcia, with the municipality of Jumilla.

An area characterized by large valleys furrowed by mountain ranges of up to 1,380 m.

A total of 19,000 hectares of vineyards, mostly rainfed, in glass, located on predominantly limestone soils, at altitudes that vary between 320 and 900 meters.

The climate of this area is continental with influence of the Mediterranean.

The low rainfall that barely reaches 300 mm per year and more than 3,000 hours of sunshine, lead to the low incidence of pests and diseases, which allows a high percentage of organic farming.
