Dop Jumilla wine tastings every week at the headquarters of "Murcia, Spanish capital of gastronomy 2020" (15/01/2020)

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the president of the Jumilla Protected Designation of Origin, Silvano García Abellán, accompanied by 10 representatives of wineries, today presented the cycle of PDO Jumilla tastings that are held within the stamp 'Murcia, Spanish Capital of the Gastronomy 2020 '.

“These are free events and open to the public that will take place once a week, throughout the year, and that aim to promote the products and raw materials of the Region of Murcia, within the Spanish Capital seal of the Gastronomy 2020 â€, said Mayor José Ballesta, who added that“ the 45 municipalities of the Region must claim the pride and identity of belonging to this land â€.

The first tasting will be offered by Bodegas Luzón, and will take place this Friday afternoon, from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at the central office of 'Murcia, Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020', located on the ground floor of the Romea Theater.

The following will be held weekly, every Thursday of the year.

To attend as a public, it is necessary to register previously on the website of the Tourism Qualification Center of Murcia.

The maximum capacity is 30 people.

The tastings will be announced weekly on the online communication channels of the Regulatory Council.

2,000 winegrowers and 19,000 hectares

The Jumilla PDO integrates about 2,000 wine growers and comprises 19,000 hectares of vineyards spread between the provinces of Murcia and Albacete (in total, it integrates seven municipalities: Jumilla and the Albacete Fuente-Álamo, Hellín, Tobarra, Albatana, Montealegre del Castillo and Ontur) .

It is considered as an emerging designation of origin for the quality and originality of its wines, and one of the most commercialized wine in the foreign market.

The Jumilla Protected Designation of Origin has a winemaking tradition that dates back to the remains of vitis vinífera - along with utensils and archaeological remains - found in Jumilla originating in the year 3,000 BC, being the oldest in Europe.

The wineries that are part of this seal, and that will be participating in the tasting cycle are;

Bodegas Bleda, Bodegas Asensio Carcelén, Bodegas BSI, Bodegas Fernández, Bodegas San Dionisio, Bodegas Santiago Apóstol, Cooperativa Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, Bodegas Silvano García, Bodegas Alceño, Bodegas Olivares, Sale of the Caves, Bodegas Carchelo, Bodegas Casa Castillo, Bodegas 1890, Bodegas Mainete, Bodegas Torrecastillo, Esencia wines Cellars, Bodegas Lumpa, Bodegas Delampa, Bodegas Viña Elena, Bodegas Salzillo, Bodegas Juan Gil, Bodegas Viña Campanero, El Nido, Bodegas Arloren, Bodegas Xenysel, Bodegas Pío del Ramo, Bodegas Cerrón , Sierra Norte Wineries, Ego Wineries, Red House, Lagar de las Puntillas, Ribera del Juá Wineries, Valle del Bodegas y Viñedos, Madrid Romero Winery and Ontalba Wineries.

In the Jumilla PDO five kinds of wine are made: red, pink, white, sweet and liquor wines, and premium production of native varieties.

The Monastrell grape is the base of 70% of the wines produced in this Protected Designation of Origin.
