Environment authorizes a project to expand the area for solar evaporation in Jumilla to the Jumsal company (01/03/2020)

The Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment has processed the Declaration of Environmental Impact of the project of extension of surface for solar evaporation in the place 'Sale of the Captain', in the municipal term of Jumilla, at the request of the company Jumsal, for the production and commercialization of all kinds of high quality food salts by exploiting the salt diapiro of its property.

The project consists of the construction of ten new evaporation rafts and a rainwater collection reservoir that will be integrated into the current Jumsal facilities and will serve the commercial crystallization plant of the mercantile.

The new rafts will have a rectangular shape, with a slight trapezoidal inclination for better adaptation to contour lines, with average measures of 120 x 80 m for crystallizers and 110 x 89 m for the catchment raft.

The company has four wells in operation for the production of saturated brine (more than 1000 cubic meters per day).

This is a process of dissolving in the mine by injecting fresh water in depth and dissolving the salt present in the diapiro.

Cavities are formed from which the brine is subsequently extracted for solar evaporation in ponds or evaporation in a high-tech thermo-compression plant.

It has an annual productive capacity of approximately 100,000 tons, of which 20 percent are sold in international markets.

Environmental Impact Statement

The Environmental Impact Statement establishes that, for adequate protection of the environment and natural resources, the protective and corrective measures and the Monitoring Program contained in the Environmental Impact Study presented, in addition to the technical requirements, must be complied with. which will prevail over the proposals by the promoter in case of discrepancy.

The Monitoring Program to be followed shall correspond in full, and in an essential manner, with which the Integrated Environmental Authorization establishes.

Consequently, it must ensure that the activity is carried out according to the project and according to the environmental condition established, will aim to minimize and correct the impacts during the operation phase of the activity, as well as allow both the determination of the effectiveness of the measures of environmental protection established (corrective and / or preventive measures and Best Available Techniques), such as verification of the accuracy and correction of the Environmental Impact Assessment carried out.
