The first tasting cycle organized from the Dum Jumilla Facebook channel, "VinosJumilla", which took place in March, has left a very good taste in the mouth of the Dop Jumilla, with more than 500 people attending live to the explanations of the personalities of the world of the sommelier and enology, and more than 20,000 scopes in these publications.
As previously announced, the tastings will take place every Friday for the duration of the quarantine that forces all Spaniards to stay at their homes, and therefore, during Easter, this Friday, the 10th, the sommelier and president of the association of Sommeliers from Albacete, Álvaro de Miguel will offer tasting explanations from his home about three aging wines from this PDO, which were protagonists in the past DOP Jumilla Wine Quality Contest, obtaining a gold and silver medal.
After the first fortnight of April, the tastings will show a selection of wines from all the wineries that make up the Jumilla PDO that so wish.
Next Friday, April 17, it will be the turn of Francisco Abellán, a Jumillano resident in Madrid, where he manages and directs Casa Patas, the tavern-restaurant and tablao flamenco considered a reference point in the World of Flamenco.
Abellán is a well-known and expert in the world of wine tasting, a member of the Spanish Union of Wine Tasters, he participates in prestigious competitions, from the Bacchus Competition to the DOP Jumilla Wine Quality Contest itself.
In this tasting, a tour will be made through four wines in different elaborations (rosé white red resting in concrete and red with a slight passage through the barrel), all of them from different wineries, and with ecological certification.
The Jumilla PDO is a pioneer in organic farming, with more than 90% of the crop.
The limestone and stony soils and the mountains that surround this PDO are key to a microclimate that, being very dry and very windy, keeps the vines healthy, thus, it is not necessary to use pesticides or other phytosanitary products.
Currently, practically all the wineries of the DOP Jumilla have some certified wine with the ecological seal, an important fact that identifies the DOP Jumilla.
The following week, on Friday, April 24, the participation of Pedro Martínez, the sommelier and businessman from Murcia, Nariz de Oro 2001, and habitual taster of the DOP Jumilla Wine Quality Contest, as well as a regular collaborator of this DOP, will be outlined.
The tasting will be broadcast live on the DOP Jumilla Wine channel on Facebook (@VinosJumilla), and will be available later on this same social network.
People who are following it live will be able to ask questions that the sommeliers will also clarify in a rigorous live broadcast.
Followers and attendees increase
Among the people who come to the 8:00 pm call, and accompany the wine tasting after applauding the toilets, there is an important number who are discovering the wines of the PDO Jumilla;
these are wine lovers, and people who have been curious.
The increase in followers on the page is notable and comments stand out about the amount of fruit and good acidity that the wines provide, in addition to the great versatility of the elaborations.
It is not the first online tasting organized from the PDO Social Channel;
You can still consult the first online tasting on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Dop Jumilla Wine Quality Contest.
It was held at the Jumilla Wine Interpretation Center for 100 people, and developed the different Monastrell grape elaborations in the Jumilla area.
On that occasion the tasting was taught by Salvador Manjón, and Andrés Proensa and can still be consulted on our Facebook and You tube channels.
More recently, the tasting offered by the Master of Wine and Master Sommelier, Heidi Mäkinen, has been broadcast live from Madrid;
This time it was in English, since it was intended for the tasters of the Bacchus Wine Competition.
It can also be consulted on the Dum Jumilla Facebook channel.
