Students from two educational centers in Jumilla participate from home in a Science City contest (05/05/2020)

The third edition of 'We are Scientists, get us out of here!' adapts its format so that it can be held during confinement.

Ten researchers from the CSIC will respond until May 15 to questions from students of the CEIP Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and the IES Infanta Elena A new edition of 'We are Scientists, get us out of here!' Has started this week, an outreach contest in which young people between 10 and 18 years old will chat with a physicist who studies black holes, a microbiologist looking for new drugs or an expert mathematician in cooperative work with drones, among other researchers from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).

This event aimed at students celebrates its third edition within the framework of the Ciudad Ciencia project with a format adapted to the special conditions of the confinement in which the country is located.

This time, both teachers,As students and research staff, they will connect from their homes through their mobile phones or computers to participate in an initiative that aims to bring science to young people in a spontaneous and fun way. Over the next two weeks, 10 CSIC researchers become contestants.

The challenge is to answer, through online chats, the questions asked by students from 18 educational centers belonging to Ciudad Ciencia.

Jumilla joins this initiative with CEIP Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and IES Infanta Elena.

This year the chats will be moderated by the teachers of each class and will not be public, as in previous editions, to have greater security. From the CSIC Zone, the research staff will answer the questions raised by young people about their professional experience and their research area, although questions about their hobbies or biography will also be allowed.

The best answers will be rewarded, since the students will vote for their favorite contestant and, as a prize, the winner will be able to develop their own dissemination workshop.

In turn, the educational center with the most activity and best interactions will receive the winner's visit during the next academic year. This activity is part of the Ciudad Ciencia scientific dissemination project, an initiative developed by the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) to which Jumilla belongs since September 2015.
