The City Council will request the CARM to include the mountain goat as a permitted species in the management hunt in Jumilla (05/05/2020)

| A resolution of April 15 of the Ministry of the Environment allows hunting of rabbits and wild boars, but not that of this species that is causing damage to the agriculture and infrastructure of the municipality, as reported by COAG-IR | On Tuesday, April 28, the Jumilla City Council received a letter from COAG-IR requesting that the Ministry of Environment and the Autonomous Community be urged that the municipalities of Jumilla and Yecla be urgently declared a hunting emergency zone. That same day both the mayor, Juana Guardiola, and the area councilor, Juan Gil, requested a report on the matter from the municipal technicians, based on which a response was sent to COAG on Thursday, April 30.

He was informed that he should not urge the Ministry, since it is the Autonomous Community that has the competence to declare a hunting emergency zone in this period. On the other hand, the Ministry of the Environment issued on April 15 a resolution that allows rabbit and wild boar hunting in the entire Region of Murcia during the State of Alarm, so it is not necessary for Jumilla to be included in hunting emergency zone. However, the City Council is going to request the CARM to include the mountain goat as a permitted species in the management hunt of Jumilla, given the damage it is causing to agriculture and road infrastructure in the municipality, since the Ministry of Environment did not include it in its resolution of April 15 because it does not consider that these species pose a danger to farms.
