7 wineries awarded in the tastings of the 26 DOP Jumilla wine quality contest (16/07/2020)

| 12 gold and 2 silver medals, show the high level of the winning wines | Today the final tasting of the 26th DOP Jumilla Wine Quality Contest took place, at the headquarters of the Spanish Union of Tasters, in Madrid.The Regulatory Council of the Protected Designation of Origin of Jumilla awards 14 wines after the count of the evaluations made by the tasters during the corresponding tasting sessions, awarding 12 gold and 2 silver medals to a total of 14 wines from 7 wineries .The tasters: Raúl Revilla, sommelier from Zalacaín, Custodio Zamarra, master sommelier, Fernando Gurucharri, president of the Unión Española de Catadores, Andrés Proensa, Director of Planeta Vino and Guía Proensa, Mara Sánchez, journalist and wine critic for various media, Raúl Serrano, Director of the tasting panel of the Vivir el Vino publication, Amaya Cervera, taster and director of Spanish Wine Lover, José Luis Casado, tasting director of the Sobremesa magazine, Jaime Bermúdez, director of Vinoselection, María José Huerta, sommelier At the Paco Roncero Restaurant in El Casino de Madrid, Antonio Candelas, editor in chief of the publication Mi Vino, and Paco Abellán, taster member of the UEC, highlighted the high level of the wines, endorsed by the high number of gold medals obtainedDuring the day, the visit of José Gómez Ortega, General Director of Food Industry and Agrarian Cooperativism of the Government of the Region of Murcia, was received, who traveled to Madrid to be present on this last day, accompanying the tasters, and congratulating the winning wineries.

Han llegado a registrarse cifras históricas en cuanto a muestras presentadas por parte de una treintena de bodegas, que, a lo largo de dos jornadas de cata son sometidas a examen por un panel de 12 catadores expertos.El principal objetivo de este Certamen es destacar las elaboraciones de calidad de la DOP Jumilla y sumar protagonismo de la auténtica reina de este territorio, la Monastrell, y el cultivo ecológico, que en la DOP Jumilla supone prácticamente el total de la producción, por lo que una de las novedades de esta 26 edición es la Mención Especial destinada al Mejor Vino Ecológico, con la que se busca reforzar la importante producción de vinos ecológicos de la DOP Jumilla.

Así, se entregará una mención especial, al vino ecológico mejor puntuado del Certamen, mientras se mantienen las dos menciones especiales a los vinos Monastrell, elaborados con y sin contacto con madera, añadas 2018 y 2019.
