Beginning of modification of the General Plan rule regarding electrical lines (27/07/2020)

In the plenary session on July 27, 2020, a file will be debated and voted to begin modifying article 52.5 of the urban regulations of the General Plan, for ordinary citizens, it is necessary to explain what a change could entail there .Despite the fact that the exact detail of the proposal has not transpired or that they say that what is done is to initiate the matter, it is more than likely that the matter consists in that in a few months there will be less protection than what the Jumilla General Plan regarding the distance that must be between power lines and homes or facilities. The existing regulation in Jumilla was a pioneer in its day and was put in place by the pressure that a citizen platform at the time made against the High Voltage lines that were going to be installed in Jumilla and by the efforts of IU Verdes to make it so.

Many environmental groups and other municipalities have given our municipality as an example since then.Between 2005 and 2020, this regulation has caused an electric line in a wind farm to be buried and the electric line that was going to pass through the La Pinosa area has not been installed with an aerial route, as it affects many homes, in addition to the City Council.

de Jumilla won a resounding and exemplary sentence to the electricity distribution company on this matter, the justice proved him right when he said that, if a City Council puts a limitation in its general planning, it can enforce it.The electricity distribution companies use all kinds of arguments to convince that all these lines must be drawn and that they need to be done, they interestedly forget that these lines can be built by only burying a small part of the route if they affect homes as they could.

having been in La Pinosa and other changes, but in our opinion the real reason is that they are afraid that it may be shown in other municipalities that it is possible to do things differently and that from then on they will demand it everywhere .At IU Verdes de Jumilla, we saw with surprise how a motion by Citizens in Yecla asked that the city council of the neighboring town ask the Jumilla government to modify our General Plan to allow that Pinosa line since they had been told that it was necessary for the electric supply of Yecla and there were no other alternatives (something that we very seriously doubt), as if it were of receipt that a City Council pressures another with respect to what their competences are.

The Jumilla City Council has never prevented this line from being installed if the part that affects homes has gotten underground or a route farther from them has been chosen. If the intention of the parties with representation in the City Council is to remove or lower this protection in general, we would consider that they will harm many citizens from now on and that only the promoters of power generation parks and the power distribution companies will win, the powerful would win the battle once again in front of ordinary citizens.I hope that PSOE, PP and Citizens very well consider the step they could take, if it goes in the direction of removing protection or lowering it in a general way since we will not tire of pointing them all out or to those who vote in favor of this type of Changes when many citizens of any part of the term are harmed in their homes by the electric lines that may be installed in the near future if the protection that they had so far with respect to them is not maintained.
