Platform "Let's save our land. No to macro-farms" (13/08/2020)

Due to the latest information that we have learned, a group of residents of Jumilla want to inform all citizens that soon they plan to start the installation work by a well-known meat company in the Region of Murcia of a macro-farm with a breeding capacity and fattening of several thousand piglets in the Cañada del Judío area, very close to the border with the neighboring town of Cieza. We are in the process of establishing ourselves as a platform to be able to report in a uniform and united way on the influence that this type of macro-farms would have on our municipality These procedures are being carried out with certain secrecy and speed, so it is difficult to access all the data, but We are a large group of highly motivated people who want to do everything necessary to be able to stop this activity that we consider very harmful at different levels. It is important to note that we do not belong to or are associated with any political party but we hope that the whole of society, including all political parties, will join us in rejecting these facilities that do not bring any benefit and can change our lives forever.

.This type of facilities can be a fatal setback for all the people who in one way or another live or develop our economic activity in the area, and we are sure that this is only a first step to enter our term, which already exists.

it was affected by similar facilities in nearby municipalities.La Cañada del Judío is mainly an agricultural area, in which many people have various activities that range from traditional rainfed crops, to vineyards and fruit trees with protected designation of origin. Many of them are producing organic crops and this type of facilities can pose a very serious problem for them as well as those of traditional agriculture that can lead to significant economic losses.Nor can we forget the agricultural industry such as wineries, oil mills, fruit warehouses, livestock and an industrial estate that little or nothing is going to develop with the future prospect of facilities of this type.On the other hand, we must remember that the development work of a "Greenway" is in a very advanced state that can help increase sustainable tourism and that collides head-on with reality by having to pass the route right by the farm where they think spread the slurry. It is no less important to point out that these lands are located on an aquifer that is in a very delicate situation such as that of Ascoy-Sopalmo.This type of industry creates discharges that would contaminate our valuable waters, making them unusable for use and that once contaminated, the situation cannot be reversed; Furthermore, a couple of kilometers from the affected area, the Rambla del Judío rises to the surface. These facilities are always associated with a large amount of bad odors and flies that can force people to abandon and sell their homes as they cannot live in them as has happened in other areas. All of the above would also lead to the loss of jobs in the surrounding areas and although the affected area is now the ravine, the objective is to prevent this type of industry from being installed in any area of ??our municipality. We ask all the people to whom this manifesto reaches them to join us together with the local political parties in rejecting these facilities so that we can be allowed to live and work our land without being harmed by some macro-farms that will benefit very few people who have nothing to do with our area.
