Master of Wine Patrick Schmitt visits PDO Jumilla (26/08/2020)

| The editor-in-chief of "The drink business" titled his first article "Why Jumilla should be on the radar of every wine lover" | The Master of Wine, and director of the English publication The Drink Business Patrick Schmitt has just published the visit that took place at the end of July, a few days before the United Kingdom imposed quarantine on all visitors who travel to our country. The times of his visit combined three days of intense discovery of a wine-growing area that was totally unknown to this professional, and chief editor of one of the most important publications in the world, and which was carried out within the promotional plan of the Regulatory Council , which contemplates in 2020 a collaboration with the English publication to consolidate and maintain sales in the United Kingdom market, one of the most important for the Jumilla PDO. Patrick Schmitt MW visited various wineries, including all those that were awarded this year in the 26 Quality Contest of the Jumilla PDO wines, as well as the winners of the Global Rosé Masters and Organic Masters competitions, in addition to learning about different projects, from the more consolidated to the youngest. His visit focused on touring old vineyards and learning about the diversity of the terroirs of the Jumilla PDO between Murcia and Albacete.

His steps led him to the Wine Museum of Hacienda del Carche-Casa de la Ermita, Juan Gil, Alceño, Olivares, Pío del Ramo, Viña Cerrón, Parajes del Valle, Viña Elena, Luzón, BSI and Bleda.

In addition, he held a meeting with 12 other representatives from as many wineries in the patio of the Loreto restaurant in Jumilla, complying with the maximum capacity conditions that in those days stood at 15 people. He also had time to get to know the gastronomic benefits of this region; rice with rabbit and snails, Jumillano gazpacho, as well as almonds, PDO Jumilla pears, PDO Murcia cheese with wine, or extra virgin olive oil from the area.

All this is related in his first photographic article in which he narrates his experiences getting to know this region. For the Jumilla DOP Regulatory Council, the impact of this visit has been noticeable, and a push for promotion and dissemination of the work that has been done.

The points of view of the wine expert have served to recognize the important work of preservation of the more than a thousand hectares of pre-phylloxera vineyard that is conserved in this region, as well as an inspiration for winemakers and their elaborations, especially with the Monastrell, queen grape of the region.

Patrick Schmitt MW highlighted "It is the unique nature of the Jumilla PDO". It is not the first time that this editorial, which sends news to more than a million people daily, echoes the Jumilla PDO.

Last June, the journalist Edith Hancock wrote an article on the occasion of obtaining six gold and silver medals in the Global Rosé Masters contest, a rosé wine contest in which the wines of the PDO Jumilla made full , receiving a medal all the wines sent.
