Half Triathlon Murcia Solidario for "La Lucha de Abril" (05/12/2020)

On December 13, the Murcia Solidarity Half Triathlon is celebrated for “La Lucha de Abril”, a girl with Jumilla roots.

It is organized by the Ochotumbao Foundation in collaboration with Ramón Arroyo and Clickche Comunicación with the aim of giving visibility to type 52 spastic paraparesis and raising funds for its research.

The test will start in Yecla and pass through Jumilla, towards Murcia. The Ochotumbao Foundation was created by Dani Rovira and Clara Lago.

It is a non-profit organization whose objective is to support those projects aimed at improving the lives of the most disadvantaged people, conserving the environment and defending animals. The NGO La lucha de Abril is an organization that aims to give visibility to spastic paraparesis type 52, a genetic-based disease classified as ultra rare with which Abril, a 4-year-old girl, has been diagnosed.

The objective of this NGO is to give visibility to the disease and raise funds for research and different therapies.

From Fundación Ochotumbao we want to join the cause, for this reason we have launched a sporting event with which to help meet these objectives.

What is Spastic Paraparesis type 52? It is a degenerative neuromuscular disease of genetic origin that has no treatment or cure.It shows many complex symptoms, but the main ones are: Cognitive deficitLack of speech Seizures of epilepsy Progressive spasticity in the lower body This disease is suffered by only 30 children in the world, including Abril, who is the only person in Spain who suffers from it.

You can get to know Abril better with the video “La lucha de Abril” and get more information about the NGO at www.laluchadeabril.org.

A sports and solidarity event for April  The Half Ironman Murcia Solidario for "La Lucha de Abril" will be a private sporting event due to the current circumstances derived from Covid-19.

It will be headed by Ramón Arroyo, a friend of Fundación Ochotumbao, a supportive sportsman with multiple sclerosis, writer of the book "Surrender Is Not An Option" and whose story the movie "100 Metros" was inspired. In addition, he launched a phrase as a hashtag with which this adventure could be defined: # Rendirsenoesunaopción.Four more friends from the Ochotumbao family who have joined the project will also join the test, as well as Jesús Merino, Abril's father.

Everyone will accompany Ramón at some point in this Iroman medium to support the cause that, of course, guarantees compliance with current Covid-19 regulations.

The event will be possible thanks to the collaborating companies: UCAM, Bodegas Juan Gil, Iveco, Gobik, Joma, Suunto, Kia, Luck, Abus, Zumub, Anser-Font, Endurance Sport Solutions, Aguas de Jumilla and Granate Laboratorio.

How to contribute: donations and charity auction  To be part of this project, the Ochotumbao Foundation will open a campaign in favor of fundraising through its website, giving the option to make the deposit from https://www.ochotumbao.org/causa/half-ironman -la-lucha-de-abril or through a bank transfer requesting the Foundation's account number at info@ochotumbao.org.

Another fun way to collaborate will be through the charity auction that will be held on December 16 on EBAY with some objects from Clara Lago and Dani Rovira, others from Ramón Arroyo himself and some more from other friends of the Foundation such as Alberto Contador, Team Movistar, etc.
