The jumillanos learn how life in the universe is looking through City Science (02/05/2016)

A team of researchers at the Center for Astrobiology (CAB), a joint institute of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA), visit Jumilla on 10 and 11 May to explain their work: know how life evolves or adapts in extreme conditions, to understand how it originated.

From Tuesday 10, the truck campaign Astrobiology Centre will be installed next to the Cultural Center Roque Baños.

There the researchers explain the equipment of this vehicle as well as the scientific activity carried out on the premises of the CAB and the various scenarios that come with the truck to do the fieldwork (Rio Tinto, Antarctica, the Atacama Desert ).

The workshop 'Finding life in the universe' is aimed at both students and the general public.

Jumillanos may participate in the activity on 10 and 11 May.

In the morning, from 8:30 to 14:00, and in the afternoon, from 17:00 to 20:00 hours.

Mornings are reserved for students and evenings are open to family audiences.

With gloves, large and small will be protagonists for a few minutes of the experiments leading to the study of the origin of life.

Thus, visitors can see, among other phenomena, how impact craters are formed and DNA extraction will, as is done in the laboratories of biology and chemistry.

This activity will take place by appointment in the City of Jumilla, particularly in the Youth Council, located in Plaza del Rey Don Pedro.

City Science is a science project of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and "la Caixa" with the collaboration of municipalities throughout Spain, whose aim is that citizens know firsthand science and technology today.

City Science develops in about 40 Spanish cities, among which since late last 2015 is Jumilla, and makes available to the member cities to this program scientific dissemination activities in multiple formats (exhibitions, lectures, visits to centers research, etc.) that are incorporated into the cultural program of each municipality and online citizen participation workshops created by researchers at the CSIC.
