The Civil Guard detains two members of a network dedicated to fraudulently high-end mobile phones (03/06/2017)

They were surprised when they were going to pick up a package with fake documentation

The fraudulently acquired high-end terminals were sold on the black market at a lower price than the market

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has carried out in Jumilla the operation 'DARKWEB', to clarify a series of scams in the acquisition of mobile phones, which has culminated in the arrest of two people, as alleged perpetrators of the crimes of Fraud, forgery of public document and usurpation of civil status continued.

Last May, the first phase of the operation began, following the intervention, to two citizens of Guinean origin, a large amount of documentation prepared to be used, allegedly, in the preparation of identity documents, such as passports and cards Of identity of foreigners, so the investigation was oriented to find out its origin and destination.

During the initial performance, a personal computer was also intervened. After its analysis, it was detected that it hid a large number of files containing personal information of a considerable number of people, such as names, surnames, ID numbers, postal addresses and, in In some cases, bank details.

La Benemérita could verify that these personal data corresponded with data of real people, who, during the last months or even years, had been victims of a swindle consisting of the contracting of telephone lines and acquisition of high-end terminals.

Some facts with a nexus of union: most of them formalized in the province of Valencia.

The network of scammers, now partially dismantled, had several operational steps.

In the first instance there was a group of people in charge of obtaining personal information that would ultimately be the victims.

Information that, as has been known, was obtained both from web pages dedicated to the query of business data and, more specifically, the so-called "deep web".

At a second level, people are in charge of selling false documents or providing the necessary elements for their preparation, which could be passports and NIEs, but also company certificates and bank documents.

The third and last level are the "mules", people who are ordered to travel to different points in the Spanish geography to the effect of removing the terminals fraudulently acquired from post offices, using the documentation made to use.

It has been found that the most common scam was the acquisition of high-end telephone terminals of a well-known brand, whose price would be around thousand euros, and other phones also high-performance.

For this they formalized contracts with fictitious documentation and later, modify the client's contact information (address, email and telephone number) so that the company can not contact it.

Finally, they falsify the personal documentation of the customers to collect the packages sent by the telephone companies and that would contain the terminals in postal offices or by private courier.

Once the terminals have been obtained, they are quickly marketed in Spain and in other countries, obtaining a considerable economic benefit.

So far it has been detected that those now arrested have acted in many parts of Spain, as in the province of Valencia Chiva and Quartell, the Community of Madrid Majadahonda and Alcorcón and, finally, in the municipality of Jumilla Murcia.

The investigation shows that those now detained had moved from Valencia to Jumilla in order to collect a postal parcel, which contained a telephone terminal, all using a false identity document.

The arrested men, of Guinean nationality, of 26 and 35 years, and residents in Valencia, the effects seized and the investigations instructed have been made available to the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 1 of Jumilla (Murcia).
