Nearly 2,600 students of Elementary and Junior have begun the course 2017/18 today (06/09/2017)

The students of Primary and Secondary Education in Jumilla started the 2017/18 school year this morning.

In the absence of the schooling commission confirming the figures, there are about 2,600 students who have started classes, about 280 of them for the first time, a figure slightly higher than the previous course.

They are divided into 103 units from nine different schools, with CEIP Miguel Hernández being the largest group of students.

Normality has been the predominant note in the return to classrooms in the municipality.

The mayor, Juana Guardiola, accompanied by the first deputy mayor, Alfonso Pulido, and the councilor of Works and Urbanism, Francisco González, have formed an active part this morning of the 'return to school' visiting two centers.

They have been concretely the ECIP Our Lady of the Assumption and the CEIP Carmen Conde, where they have greeted to the students and have talked with their directors.

During the summer, various maintenance works were carried out in all schools, at a cost of 55,000 euros, which would have to be combined with the workforce of the municipal staff.

A separate chapter will be the Municipal School of Music, which is undergoing a comprehensive reform that will be finalized shortly.

More than 125,000 euros in aid

The City Council of Jumilla supports the activities of the AMPAS of the schools with an amount of 15,000 euros, to which must be added the 40,000 euros of the agreement with the Federation of Associations of Parents and Parents of Students (FAMPA) to put back the textbook reuse project is underway.

Another 30,000 euros will come to the students in the form of grants for the acquisition of teaching materials and textbooks at the levels of the second cycle of Early Childhood Education.

Also, the Department of Social Services, through the Ordinance for the Granting of Assistance of Urgent Need, continuously attends to students who require economic support.

The Department of Education also subsidizes part of the amount of student travel to universities and schools outside the locality with a sum of 40,000 euros.
