The Community retrieves the altarpiece of the Immaculate Conception of Jumilla (26/07/2010)

The Director of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage, Enrique Ujaldón, presented today the altarpiece of the Immaculate Conception parish priest of El Salvador in Jumilla, declared of Cultural Interest, Joaquín Hernández.

The book, belonging to José Sánchez Lozano, "carver who made an epoch in the Region of Murcia and followed the trail of Salzillo" said Ujaldón, is made of wood carved and painted and gilded with fake gold and silver.

The intervention, conducted under supervision of experts of the Center for Restoration of Cultural Property in the Region of Murcia, has basically been a general cleanup, color sat, disinfecting, sealing cracks, size reproduction of missing elements, chemical cleaning the polychrome and gilding and lacquer coating for protection.

The restoration of the altarpiece has had a budget of 44,080 euros provided equally by the Directorate General of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage and an individual.

Ujaldón, who also visited the newly opened Museum of Jesus of Nazareth, the town, said "even though times are tough, we will continue working for the heritage of Jumilla, which is one of the great historical heritage of the region."

The Directorate General has been restored in recent years, other pieces belonging to the historical de Jumilla as the front of the altar and mural paintings of the XVI century church of St. James, the paintings of the eighteenth century Annunciation and Our Lady of Grace and the size of the XVI century Santa Catalina, located in the Ethnographic Museum, an Ecce Homo Gonzalez Moreno of the Brotherhood of the Scroll, and the curtain of the nineteenth century, Vico Theatre.
