Botany professor José Fajardo gave a talk on the use and benefit to man the plant world (30/11/2010)

On Friday, Socio Cultural Center "Roque Baños" Professor of Botany at the Universidad Popular de Albacete, Jose Fajardo gave a lecture on the use and benefit that man has made along its history, wealth and variety offered by the plant world.

The talk dealt from food use, basic and essential to human life, even today, to the use of branches and wood for building houses and furniture, through the benefits of medicinal plants and even the ritual use of some plants that have that special aura to be considered sacred.

The conference, which attracted a large attendance of the public, kept the attention of the audience who followed with interest the large amount of data provided Fajardo.

As an example, in an area of Abyssinia, there are more varieties of wheat and barley in the world, or that the active ingredient in aspirin, acetylsalicylic acid, started from the bark of the willow.

José Fajardo's conference was the culmination of the exhibition on "Useful Plants" which for a fortnight has been in the exhibition hall of the CAM, to celebrate the twenty fifth anniversary of the People's University Tomás Ana Herrero.

Now these commemorative activities were postponed, because of the Christmas season until January and will last until March.
