Jumilla laboratory for studying paleoclimate 300,000 years ago (19/11/2012)

On Thursday the 15th, Professor of Geology at the University Complutense of Madrid, Javier Martín Chivelet, said at a press conference, the significant progress being achieved with the study of karst materials (estalactíticos and stalagmitic) from a cave Jumilla, which has been selected from the large set of karst formations that exist in the municipality of the town.

Said Professor Martin Chivelet that the first steps of the study they are doing, throwing a length of 300.00 years, a fact that surprised the researchers, who did not expect such a high age.

This information materials Jumilla placed in a temporary space barely known worldwide data, as available information on climate 300,000 years ago, which is essential for two reasons:

First to know the environment and biotopes in hominids living at the time, and second to see how climate will evolve in the coming decades.

In another vein, this type of research on karst materials, only have been made in China and now in Spain, with some attempts, with little information on a few places on the planet.
