Ujaldón Jumilla highlights the significant growth in regional tourism (21/02/2013)

Continues the cultural agenda of the conference with the petroglyphs of the municipality of Jumilla, this Thursday at 19 pm at the Center Sociocultural Roque Banos.

After a theatrical tour in the Museum of Ethnography and Natural Sciences, began the conference Tourism Outlook where the Councillor for Tourism, Maria Dolores Fernandez, expressed the satisfaction of having this meeting with Enrique Ujaldón, head of Regional Tourism forward, that this new body will serve to develop, improve and promote the resources available to our region.

Meanwhile, Emiliano Hernandez, coordinator of Culture presented the speaker, through a tour of his extensive biography.

The rapporteur, Enrique Ujaldón wanted to convey to those attending the conference in Murcia have a great future and much in mind, though, many times we do not realize what we have and we ourselves are not able to convey the strengths and unique features of our Region and often not of our own city, something you have to work.

Murcia has managed to tourism, contribute 9.8% to the regional GDP, double the agricultura.A brings despite the difficult situation that we, the tourism is growing by 2.5%, creating 45,000 jobs directly and indirectly in the Region of Murcia, and increasing recruitment in 2011 and 2012, contrary to what happened in the rest of Spain, in the same sector, where jobs have been destroyed, although the national average by 10.8 GDP provides, we remain below, but creating business community in crisis.

Our region is visited by six million tourists including regional tourists, domestic and foreign, in spite of that, we are not a saturated zone, as can be Torrevieja, and our tourism industry is highly dependent on domestic tourism, which has led to a growth Tourism in the region, as domestic tourists going abroad, stay in Murcia.

One of the key objectives is to increase foreign tourism in diversifying our region, and not being so dependent on tourism English, which has been declining for the crisis, promoting the German tourist.

300,000 people a year can visit Cartagena, a tourist destination that was not and now I do.

Looking ahead, it is important to emphasize that it is essential for tourism infrastructure there, awaiting the arrival of the AVE in 2014, in order to attract tourists to the region.

Also arriving and departing cruise from the port of Cartagena, as well as the enhancement of the airport, as the San Javier, is very expensive, military and only operates from three in the afternoon, losing their appeal.

Many tourists come to Alicante airport, and stay there because they have the same conditions as in Murcia and one hour travel, something that you have to compete.

Another impediment to that is that we must fight in Murcia, a 77 year law you are trying to repeal, prevents a foreign tourist can buy a house on the beach in Murcia, it needs a permit from the Ministry of Defence, which takes about 6 months to be granted, however, Alicante and Almeria this problem does not occur, which hurts our region.

Another bet for the future is the Paramount theme park, which has been delayed a bit in its construction because there was a problem with a farm, and had to buy another, which amended the original draft, and it is expected that the works begin soon and as other parks around the world, increase visitors to Murcia.

Currently, work is the reality of tourism today, as in the seasonality of tourism, to attract other tourists, apart from the English, and not compete on price, increasing profitability for hoteliers in the region.
