Jumilla hosting a technical seminar on the benefits of proper use of sludge for agricultural purposes (29/10/2013)

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, and the first deputy mayor of Jumilla, Alicia Abellán, inaugurated today the Technical Seminar 'Agricultural Utilization of sludge from sewage treatment plants', organized by the Institution of cleansing and purifying ( Esamur) and the city of Jumilla.

During the inauguration of the conference, held in Jumilla, the owner of Agriculture and Water said that the sludge generated in the purification processes "contain organic richness that improves agricultural soil texture," adding that their use "is beneficial if applied correctly."

He said "we can convert a waste into a resource and develop the concept of 'blue economy', that is to harness the waste we generate."

Meanwhile, Alicia Abellán, noted in this regard that "the City Council of Jumilla has made a major effort in controlling the use of sewage sludge," adding "we have moved from the use they made some twenty farmers to Throughout the year, controlled use only during the summer period authoritatively, four farmers with large farms. The purification of the region generate more than 140,000 tons of mud, which are high in organic nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, which can be used as natural fertilizer in arable soils.

Renewal of the agreement between the city of Jumilla and ESAMUR
