The Ministry organizes a 'press trip' in the region to promote tourism in the United States and the life style of Murcia (24/10/2014)

The Region received last year 55,441 American visitors, including tourists and cruise ship passengers

The Institute of Tourism organized a total of 29 'fam trips' in 2013, with the participation of 242 professionals from 14 different nationalities

The Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Business and Innovation, through the Institute of Tourism, this week organized a familiarization tour of Chicago journalists to the region to spread tourism and lifestyle of the region among American citizens .

To this end, the Institute of Tourism has invited a group of media from this American city (the third most populous country), with the aim of know firsthand attractions in the region, in particular its culture, its beaches, its gastronomy and its product of meetings, incentives, conferences and events, and businesses.

The American delegation, which is also an official of the Spanish Tourist Office (OTS) in Chicago, has remained until today visiting the region.

The first part of the familiarization trip included a visit to the Museum of the Roman Theatre, Roman Forum Area, Panoramic Lift and Auditorium and Convention Center in Cartagena El Batel.

Fortaleza del Sol, the Parador and the Synagogue in Lorca as well as the Cathedral, the Casino and the historical center of Murcia, was also visited.

The program is completed with a visit to Jumilla and the Wine Route, La Manga and Cabo de Palos and Regional Park of Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro on the Costa Calida

This action is part of the internationalization strategy launched by the Institute of Tourism in collaboration with the business sector in the region and Turespaña, which seeks to enhance the region's image as a tourist destination abroad, showing the best experiences regional supply.

The Murcia region organized a total of 29 'fam trips' with the participation of 242 professionals from 14 different nationalities, including travel agents, tour operators and journalists last year.

American Market

According to the National Statistics Institute, the Region of Murcia received a total of 55,441 American visitors, including tourists and cruise passengers, representing a growth of 28 percent and 46 percent in both categories compared to 2012 in 2013.

The stay of these tourists averaged in the region of 24.5 days compared to the national figure of 12.7 days and the total expenditure on the set of their stay doubled the average for all countries, against € 2159.67 1054.14 euros.

For main motivations of tourists from the United States to travel to Europe, are leisure and holidays, visiting family and friends, and business.

In Spain, the main activities involve cultural, followed far behind by the nightlife and gastronomic tourism.
