The Minister of Public Works laid the first stone of the last stretch of the A-33 to connect with Yecla Jumilla (17/12/2014)

The Minister of Development, Ana Pastor, accompanied by President of the Autonomous Community, Alberto Garre, and the mayors of Jumilla and Yecla, Enrique Jiménez, and Marcos Ortuño, attended this morning the laying of the foundation stone of which works on the stretch of the A-33, which will link Jumilla Yecla, laying reduced by 46 kilometers connection between Murcia and Valencia.

This is the last stretch of the A-33, which has been awarded by 69 million euros ten less than originally budgeted, with a completion period of 40 months, and will be undertaken by three different companies.

Specifically, Pastor said that this stretch, which will have a lead time of 40 months, will save time about 11 minutes on the current path of the N-344, a distance of nearly 24 kilometers;

and savings of five liters of fuel in the path between White and Yecla, which is about 70 kilometers.

As highlighted by his part, Mayor of Jumilla, Enrique Jimenez, "Two years ago we attended the launch of the stretch of the A-33 White-Jumilla, and since then the Minister of Development is committed to the highlands, to follow making significant efforts to advance this project, and here is the result. The first stone is a symbolic act, which is reflected in the more than 69 million euros, provided by the Central Government for the implementation of this stretch will connect Jumilla Yecla by motorway ".

The works have been divided into three subsections, and the budget of the three contracts awarded work amounts to 69 million euros.

Specifically, subsection 1, of 7.3 kilometers long, stretching from the junction with the N-344 in Jumilla to the local road MU-26-A;

while subsection 2 7.5 kilometers long, stretching from the local road MU-26-A to the next intersection with the same road.

Finally, subsection 3 8.6 kilometers long, stretching from the local road MU-26-A through C-3223 regional road that leads to Yecla.

This stretch of highway is an alternative to the old N-344, along which 5,500 vehicles daily, of which up to 23 percent are heavy.

Furthermore, it has been designed with very gentle slopes, so that vehicles using this new route will avoid steep slopes and ramps N-344 road, capturing most of the traffic long and halfway to allow driving much more comfortable, safe and efficient.

It will also avoid passing vehicles for cruises industrial area of ​​Los Romerales in Jumilla, La Alquería and Fuente del Pino, thereby improving the quality of life in these places to reduce noise nuisance or pollution and increase road safety .

The minister also announced that there will be continuity in the stretch between Yecla, Caudete and Fuente la Higuera to connect to the Mediterranean motorway.

It is expected that when the A-33 is completed constitutes an attractive alternative for travel between Murcia and Valencia through the interior, without passing through Alicante.

Specifications

The three works contracts define a stretch of highway redrawing 23.4 kilometers between Jumilla and Yecla.

The highway will have 2 lanes 2 lanes of 3.5 meters each, separated by a median of 10 meters, 2.5 meters wide outside shoulders and interiors of 1.0 meters and 1.0 meters berms.

The design speed is 120 kilometers per hour, and three links, one with the N-344 road, at the beginning of subsection 1, which allow access to the town of Jumila be built;

another link at km 10 + 600 with RM-A26 road, half of subsection 2;

and a link at km 17 + 100 with the RM-A26 road in subsection 3.

At the end of the section, in Yecla, building a gazebo provisional included with the C-3223 road that accesses the town of Yecla, while eastbound carriageway does not have continuity with the next leg of the A-33, found in project.

To execute a viaduct, 14 overpasses and 8 underpasses will be built.

In addition, cross drainage works required should be provided to give continuity to the valleys intersected by the highway.

In the past three years have also commissioned two other sections of the A-33 (Blanca-Abaran and Abaran-Jumilla).

In total, 30 kilometers, in which it has invested more than 100 million euros.

On the other hand, during his speech, the minister stressed that, during this term were devoted to roads in the region of Murcia 235 million euros.

This investment has had to deal with debt from previous years, amounting to 40.6 million euros.

Furthermore, in this community, in the years 2012 and 2013 were paid expropriations of works that began in the years 2007, 2008 and 2009 amounting to 36.57 million euros.

This year, meanwhile, is expected to pay more than 8.3 million in expropriations affecting 848 farms.

Of this amount, already paid 3.4 million and the rest shall be paid for the remainder of the year or in early 2015.
