The mayor of Jumilla, Enrique Jimenez, gathered last Thursday, the results of energy audits carried out by the Institute of Development of the Region of Murcia (Info) within the Elena-Fuensanta Project, which lay the foundation for the development of projects in energy efficiency and to promote renewable energy facilities, in order to obtain significant savings in the municipal energy bill.

The director of INFO, Francisco Martinez, was delivering these audits have been conducted within the framework of the European project Fuensanta, within the Elena initiative of the European Investment Bank, to the mayors of Las Torres de Cotillas, Cehegín, Jumilla and San Javier, who were the first municipalities to sign the agreement.

"These four municipalities are committed to act to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, to a more sustainable energy municipality. These are audits that are very solid way to advance that foundation," said Martinez.

Energy audits are the result of the agreement that the Institute of Development with the four municipalities signed last December, as part of energy studies, audits and inventories of facilities that was planned within the project called Elena-Fuensanta.

This project facilitates the decision making of public bodies at the time of the launch of numerous energy efficiency measures contemplated in the Plans of Action for Sustainable Energy (PAES) that each municipality has started.

Inventory and recommendations

In the case of Cehegín and Jumilla, INFO has delivered energy audits on public lighting, which analyzed the consumption, the type of current contracts with suppliers, the number and location of luminaires, centers command and condition of the facilities, among others.

Audits provide recommendations and information on the savings that would result in the investments needed to correct the deficiencies, so that there is an improvement in performance increase and better maintenance facilities, control and monitoring of them.

In the case of Jumilla, if carried out all the actions mentioned in the audit (with a required investment of 1.3 million euros) the cost savings would be about 180,000 euros a year.
