The Jumilla Oenological Laboratory has analyzed over the past year 5,000 samples from all over Spain (18/11/2015)

The Jumilla Oenological Laboratory, which is accredited by the National Accreditation Body (ENAC), provides a service to the wine industry for quality control of grapes and wine, and in the last year has about 5,000 samples analyzed, making almost 30,000 determinations.

Since March 2013, date of issue of Information Analysis through the eGovernment portal Community, have issued 2,272 certificates.

The research group of the Laboratory has received funding for 14 research projects between regional and national, many of them in collaboration with the research group of Agricultural Chemistry and Food Technology of the University of Murcia, seeking to improve the quality grape and wine of Murcia, specifically the variety Monastrell.

Among the investigations it has been carried out to study the grape quality, agronomic improvement, improved winemaking techniques applied to the variety Monastrell, as well as the influence of the growing area in the variety and obtaining their wines.

The experimental winery, which belongs to the Department of Viticulture and Enology, section IMIDA wine grape, was established in 1987 to produce wines from grapes obtained with different growing conditions and different varieties Monastrell, representing a monoculture of red grapes in the region.

The main result of this work has resulted in the introduction of Syrah in the area.

In the wine cellar needed for research projects (planting density trials with the variety Monastrell, deficit irrigation projects and Monastrell crosses with other varieties) that are performed with grapes from the Hacienda Nueva farm produce, located in Cehegín.

In addition to research projects each year are made to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment samples which are made according to a strict protocol and the resulting wine is sent to the Ministry to establish the database annual isotopic composition , from which it determines the possible existence of fraud in the wine.
