The Cantigas de Santa Maria del Rey Alfonso X (1221-1284) is a collection of 427 poems to music written in Galician-Portuguese and compiled in 4 manuscripts that are the most important lyrical medieval Spain.

Combine tales of miracles popular in the Middle Ages with praises to the Virgin Mary, whose devotion extends throughout the Iberian Peninsula, coinciding with a period in building magnificent temples and cathedrals Romanesque-Gothic full transition.

The miniatures that adorn the poems and musical notes are a valuable document, not only for its perfection, but the information provided about the daily life of medieval Spain of three cultures and the many musical instruments are detailed and are one of the main sources for study and reconstruction.

It is considered the most personal work of Alfonso X, who assembled a large cast of poets, musicians and illuminators to implement this unique project.

"Charamella" Palencia is a group composed of different interpreters specialized in ancient and traditional music with extensive experience in other formations.

The group was formed in 2004 with a proposal to offer an innovative approach to early music in Europe and more specifically in the Middle Ages in the Iberian Peninsula, trying to maintain the necessary rigor in the melodies and instruments, but open to a new combination of sounds and rhythms that confer a particular character.

"Charamella" offers this repertoire made up of musicians: Miguel Abad Frutos (fiddle, Rabel, Santur, Tarreñas, Percussion), Juan Cruz Silva (Chirimía, Dulzaina, Duduk, Gnay, Hurdy-gurdy, flutes), Shaykh Gibril Wafir (Ud, Gnay , Darbouka, Caraquebs) and Francisco Fidalgo Rodríguez (Adufe, Darbouka, Percussion).
