Submitted prize to the winner of competition for the rehabilitation of the environment of the Church of El Salvador (24/02/2009)

In the hall of the City of Jumilla has been formally presented the prize to the winning project of Competition for the Rehabilitation of the environment of the Church of El Salvador.

This contest was won by the project submitted under the slogan 'The Zarzillo' by Pedro García Martínez and scored 49 points.

The ceremony was attended also by several authorities, members of the jury, as well as the architects of the three projects selected as finalists.

It was a contest organized by the city of Jumilla and he submitted a total of 15 papers.

Besides the first prize, two second prizes were awarded to the highest scoring proposals, the first project submitted under the slogan 'Red Carpet' Monteagudo Arquitectos SL and second runners-up at work called 'My Town, My Identity' by Rafael García and Juan Manuel Salmerón Sánchez Núñez.

In his speech, the mayor said, "This initiative arose from observing that it is an area of very desolate village, the Church of the Savior is a beautiful monument and surroundings not accompany him."

As for the winning paper said that "transgressive project is very advanced, with some great ideas, build more spaces in that area and I think if we get government funding in the next year, will leave the area completely finished and with a better image for the whole environment of the Church. "

Francisco Abellán also said he is working with the Department of Commerce to obtain adequate funding, through grants from Urban Commercial to realize this project.

Another said that "it will continue to work with the call for tenders for other projects where we want to involve the College of Architects and the region."

Among the projects planned "is the stretch of street from the Teatro Canovas to the corner of Avenue of the Assumption and the continuation of the space environment of the Church of the Savior to the junction with Calle Cánovas," said the mayor.

For its part, the winner of the contest of ideas, Pedro García Martínez Jumilla thanked the City Council the idea of the call for this contest and explained the project.

García Martínez said, "is a two-pronged strategy, first, put the pavement of the area surrounding the Church of the Savior and then generate a kind of milestones that will mark out a route around the church, these milestones are elements that offer many possibilities as a bank of lights at the city level or higher lighting can also withstand natural elements and also elements that are intended to provide changing facades because images can be projected on them, causing between day and night change the look. "

The jury for this contest has been composed by Francisco Abellán Martínez, president of the City Mayor and Chairman of the Jury, Joan Verdú Guardiola, Executive Councillor for Culture, Herminio Poveda García, Head of Technical Services Works and Urbanism, Juan Simón Ruiz, Architect Municipal Technical, Castellá Francisco Molina, Architect of the Department of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage and acting Secretary, Secretary General of the Corporation, Beatriz Selma Penalva.
