The Citizens' Defence Committee of the Regional Assembly held a working meeting at Jumilla (16/03/2009)

Jumilla has hosted a working meeting of the Committee on Petitions and Citizen Advocacy Regional Assembly.

In the latter attended the components of this committee, a total of 14 regional deputies, the spokespersons of the PP and PSOE municipal and mayor Francisco Abellán Jumilla.

The Committee on Petitions and Citizen Advocacy is to try to resolve those complaints, requests and problems that citizens feel in their daily work and its relationship with different administrations.

According to the chairman of the committee, Martin Quiñonero, received between 60 and 70 complaints from citizens each legislative year, ie more than 300 in the full legislature.

To Quiñonero, "is a high figure and found that in our community, the commission is used in a much higher proportion than in other regions."

As for the issues that are transferred to the commission, according Quiñonero, are of all kinds and related to many issues, from complaints of noise and dirty areas, to issues of environment, pollution, health care issues related to the implementation of the Law Unit, delayed reviews, and issues of social services, planning and partial plans, among many others.

The procedure to address this committee is very simple, "just to make a brief and direct to the Regional Assembly or its President, and is derived from the commission," the president said adding that "citizens can also ask to appear in specific or as representatives of citizens to be heard by the members of this committee and so the deputies and spokespersons of the groups have the opportunity to clarify any doubts about their complaints. "

After the workshop, have appeared at a news conference the mayor of Jumilla Francisco Abellán, the Commission President and Vice President Martin Quiñonero Mariano García.

Abellán has stated that "this visit, which is not the first time it occurs, is another reason for bringing together institutions, one more reason to fulfill our public duty to inform all citizens of what the bodies to which can go and the sites where they can use in the protection and the need to be heard and seen in their needs. "

The mayor added that "in addition to the council, which is always open to the need to address and resolve the issue close, there is another institution, in this case, the Regional Assembly, where a commission has the task of listening to groups, neighbors and citizens in particular. "

Francisco Abellán Jumilla appreciated the presence of this committee "for having the city in that line of work and ask you to heed the request of our neighbors and give us move to our city council to resolve to the extent possible."

For its part, the president welcomed the invitation "because it allows us to expose and tell the public what our role is."

The committee meets every week during the open season which is the assembly "and in it we see the issues and try to refer people who do not dilate in time."

Quiñonero added that "we have a relationship with the municipalities since many complaints are related to local government and, together, we get that question or problem to the citizen."

In particular, with the town of Jumilla "the relationship has been good, there have been very few complaints and in which there has been has acted quickly and answered quite quickly."

The president of the Citizens' Defence Committee added that "there are times that complaints are resolved in favor of citizens and others not, but we believe it is important to unlock the issue that in some cases, is paralyzed."

As for the recent creation of the position of Ombudsman, Quiñonero Martin noted that "although we may think that this figure will be detrimental to the activity of our committee, we understand that the two institutions should seek to defend interests of citizens, therefore they will not be incompatible, it is possible that the same dynamic performance can be complementary.
